Draw Poker - Poker Strategies

Well jailbird, now that you are on lockdown, you'll have plenty of time to learn all about draw poker and poker strategies. Here in the joint we play a lot of poker, and poker strategies are closely guarded secrets. I am going to share mine with you though as it might help prevent you from losing more than just your dignity.

Most poker games are very similar. The difference in draw poker games is that players are given at least one opportunity to discard some cards from their hand in exchange for new ones. In draw poker, players often try to guess an opponent's poker strategy by paying attention to how many cards the other player draws. If your cellmate only draws one card, for example, he may be hoping to complete a flush or a straight. If, on the other hand, he chooses to draw three cards, he is probably holding a pair. Of course, you can never be sure of what your opponent's poker strategy is, but it is a good starting place.

There are a few other poker strategies you should remember if you want to survive your time in the joint.

1 - Don't play cheap: you should always begin with at least 40 or 50 times the table limit.
2 - If your hand has nothing in it, get out!!
3 - If your hand is a sure winner, make your opponents pay to see it.
4 - If you are beaten, fold.
5 - Your final goal is to beat your opponents, not to have the highest hand. Even if your hand is lousy, if all the others fold, you win.
6 - Don't play to beat a better player. With some luck, you might win small, if not, you'll lose big.
7 - The odds of you bettering your opening hand are even
